Tips for a Subtle Makeup Look

Start with a Clean Face

It’s now time for your clients to pay more attention to their skincare. You want to make sure you emphasize proper cleansing, toning, and moisturizing to ensure a clean slate for your makeup.

Try a Primer and Concealer Instead

Ask your client if they prefer to skip out on foundation for a primer instead. If they have a pretty even complexion, primer can even it out more and give it a brighter look. You can use a bit of concealer to cover any imperfections.

Dab some concealer under the eyes to brighten them up, as masks tend to accentuate shadows there. Be sure to find the right color for your client to blend well since it won’t be going on the entire face.

Try a Smear-Proof Lipstick

Light or nude-toned lipsticks that offer hydration are ideal when wearing a mask. Take it a step further and invest in smear-proof lipstick. Another tip is to use a tissue to blot off the excess lip product after application. You can also dust a little translucent powder to set the lipstick and lessen the chances of it smudging.

Bring Attention to the Eyes

Think of the mask as a modern masquerade. You want to be bold, sultry, and mysterious with the eyes. There are so many new eye makeup trends in 2021 to help us achieve this. Colored lashes, graphic liner, 90s liner, bold colors, now is the time to really practice your artistry with the eyes and learn to accentuate your clients’ soulful features.

Invest in a Silk Mask

When it comes to face masks and makeup, it’s all about the choices we make. This includes the type of fabric we choose to put on our faces. Silk is preferable over a cotton or synthetic blend mask. It is cooling, hypoallergenic, and will absorb less moisture than cotton.

How to Make Full Makeup Last Longer

If your clients want a full face of makeup, you can take a few steps to make the look last longer.

  1. Set the moisturizer very lightly with translucent powder to keep the moisturizer in and not mix it with the primer and foundation.
  2. Use a longevity setting spray to lock in the moisturizer and powder.
  3. Opt for a gripping primer to really keep the makeup on the face.
  4. Use any long-lasting foundation and concealer that is full coverage. This prevents makeup from coming off the face completely and is more forgiving than sheer coverage.
  5. Use a damp sponge to melt the setting powder into the face, so it seeps through. Let it sit for a few minutes. Then lightly dust off the setting powder.
  6. Finish off with some setting spray to lock in the look!
