1 Know what you want –What kind of career did you envision for yourself when you decided to get into esthetics? There are many avenues you could choose when it comes to the world of beauty. Once you know what you want, you can make your plan and put it into action. If you are unsure, research and find people in the industry. You’d be surprised and delighted to know there are folks out there who would happily take the time to answer your questions, and perhaps even mentor you along the way.

2 Have a Positive Attitude –A positive attitude will get you further to your goal faster. Attitude determines your success or failure. Henry Ford is quoted as saying “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.”

3 Take Positive Action – put a plan together to achieve your goal. If you are interested in becoming an educator, but don’t have any public speaking experience, you could join a speaker’s group. Look for educational classes and volunteer to get the experience you need to get to your desired position. There are online classes for almost anything you can imagine, and they are even reasonably priced. This will make your resume look amazing!

4 Make connections – We all know that it’s important to connect with others, but here’s the secret: make it a point to help as many people as you can. Zig Ziglar, a famous professional speaker once said, “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” Second to your esthetic license, your contact list is your most valuable asset. Reach out to others. People appreciate even the smallest things. Maybe you could be a reference for someone, perhaps you could send a job posting to someone who appreciates it. It’s the old adage, what goes around comes around.

5 Send thank you notes – A handwritten thank you note will make you stand out and shine! Buy a couple of packs of beautiful note cards and a book of stamps and keep them on your desk. Having an attitude of gratitude is always a plus. Going that extra step to put pen to paper is an elegant, classy thing to do that will be a wow factor to the recipient. It will make you memorable, and people want to help those who express thankfulness.

6 Have your resume professionally written – A stellar resume can be the difference between getting an interview and being overlooked. Enlisting a professional resume writer will be money well-spent. Some of them will even write your online profile and connect you with recruiters.

7 Create a MasterMind Group – In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill talked about a “mastermind alliance.” He described this mastermind group as, “A friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage one to follow through with both plan and purpose.” It’s beneficial to have supportive friends and family members who will support and encourage you on your way to getting your ideal job.

8 Don’t give up – You may have to pay your dues and put in time and effort to work your way up. You may have to start out in a less than ideal job, however, make it a point to “bloom where you’re planted.” Do that job as if you love it and you love every single person you work with. Remember, success breeds more success.

9 Dream bigger – once you land your dream job, it’s time to set new goals. Maybe you could focus on some personal goals while you enjoy your well-earned position. Keep growing and learning. There is always something new and exciting that can take you to new heights of achievement.
