Services on demand
The world around us has become more and more fast-paced in recent years, and this trend is only expected to continue. People are looking for quick, convenient services that can (preferably) come to them. What does this mean for the beauty industry? Good news! Beauty treatments are easily adaptable to a mobile environment, with the added benefits of being your own boss and setting your own hours. However, there are some important factors to consider before taking your business on the road.
We sat down with Ingrid Burke, founder of Nails by Ingrid Mobile Service. An industry veteran of 18 years, she offers facials, hair, makeup, and nail services that she and her partner, Vanessa Garcia, bring directly to their clients in South Florida. Here, Ingrid shares with us all they have learned from operating a mobile beauty business.

Why did you decide to make your spa mobile?
We had always dreamed of trying a “pop-up” salon.
Who is the typical client for a mobile spa? What are they looking for?
Someone with limited time, who needs their hair, makeup, and nails done all at once. It’s so convenient!
What are the most requested treatments?
Blowouts, manicures, pedicures, and facials.
What are the benefits of running a business “on the go?”
Making our own schedule. Being able to satisfy our clients’ needs by popping up anywhere they are.
Are there any factors to consider before starting a mobile business? Particularly a mobile spa?
Always consider parking and storage options for your vehicle. Also, the insurance is pretty high, so be sure to shop around to get the best possible rate.
What do you love about your work?
The transformations! We love to see the “before and after” results.
Did you receive any advice or words of encouragement before getting started?
While working in salons, we noticed clients often had a hard time making it to their appointments due to jobs, family, and life in general. So, we came up with the idea of bringing the services to them!
What is your background in business before starting the mobile spa?
We have a combined 43 years working in salons and the beauty industry (Ingrid, 18 years, and Vanessa, over 25 years).
Do you have any plans for expanding your business in the future?
Eventually, we would like to have fleets, with full staff, and turn this into a franchise. We would also love to hold training sessions for those just starting out in the field, as well as continuing education for professionals.
Do you see more businesses “going mobile” on the horizon?
Absolutely. These days, everyone is going mobile because of the high demand for convenience.
