What is your business called and where are you located?

Bare Beauty. We are two solo Master Estheticians and Educators who have teamed up to provide exceptional waxing and esthetic services. Jaimee Sampley and I have our own studios in the same building located in The River City – Richmond, Virginia!

Can you give a little information about your background as an esthetician?

I am a Master Esthetician and an Esthetics Instructor. I have been in the industry for a little over 20 years now. I am fortunate to have worked in different environments over the years with the best of the best in Richmond. Early on, I learned that working in a medical office was just not my jam. I am grateful for the experience! Everyone should work with lasers or other advanced modalities and be open to always learn something new. I spent five years as the Lead Esthetician at a local trendy spa/salon and loved the team and the spa environment. For my first esthetics job right out of school, I worked solo out of a room at a hair salon. This is where I learned how to build lasting client relationships by observing my mentor like a hawk. She was the first to teach me about all aspects of the beauty industry. Prior to venturing out as a solo esthetician, I was the Director of Esthetics and an Educator for Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Beauty Lounge. This was an experience of a lifetime. What inspired you to become an esthetician?

I was on the path to get my masters in elementary education. During that time, I went on a cruise vacation with my mom. So, of course I went to check out the spa. I had never had a facial and thought why the heck not?! After that facial treatment, I walked out of that spa and knew it was my calling. I completely changed my career path and haven’t looked back!

What beauty philosophy do you stand by?

I firmly believe in the “less is more” philosophy. Over the years, I have worked with many new clients with sensitized, angry skin. I find that many people are over-exfoliating with both manual and chemical products. At that point, the lipid barrier is compromised causing transepidermal water loss. Their skin appears angry, dry and or dehydrated. This goes for the intimate areas of our body as well.

I specialize in brazilian waxing and sugaring hair removal. My focus is to educate clients about the importance of consistent care for their intimate area as they would care for the skin on their face and decollete.

I am no longer shocked when a client says to me, “If it doesn’t sting or hurt then it’s not working.” This is why educating your clients is essential to personalized homecare that works to restore the skin barrier.

What is your favorite treatment?

I am in love with the Restorative CBD Infused Vajacial treatment that I offer on my menu of services. I recommend that this service is booked two weeks after wax or sugar hair removal. I have seen amazing results after just one treatment! CBD has a wide range of benefits for the skin, like reducing inflammation, fighting bacteria, combatting stress hormones, regulating oil production, and restoring dry and dehydrated skin.

What brands do you use and why?

I have used many product lines over the years. Since stepping out on my own, I have total control to choose my favorite products from a few different lines. For skincare and waxing, I use Color Up Skincare. What I absolutely love about this line is the variety of products infused with high quality CBD. Many other professional and retail products recommend adding a CBD additive to your moisturizer or serum, etc. Color Up is taking CBD Skincare to the next level! I also use Sweet & True Sugaring Company. Their sugar pastes are outstanding! For homecare products, I currently retail Vanish PFB Chromabright, Sweet and True Smoothing Serum, Color Up Remedy Treatment Oil, and Finipil which is a ride or die.

What is your secret to beautiful skin?

Wearing an SPF daily and staying hydrated!

What are your favorite tools to use in the treatment room and why?

I’m a simple gal. My hands, wax sticks, and an amazing pair of tweezers.

What is your favorite part about working for your company?

Working for myself gives me a sense of freedom. It is an incredible feeling and I’m excited for the future!
