Can you give a little information about your background as a brow artist?

Adriana: I have more than eight years of experience as a Licensed Esthetician and Cosmetic Tattoo Artist. My rare ability to see imperfections in symmetry is why clients trust and believe in my work. I am also an educator and mentor to aspiring students in the permanent makeup industry. I stay up-to-date with all the latest brow trends, am continuously learning new techniques, and make sure to listen to my clients and understand what they want.

Patricia: I am a licensed esthetician and cosmetic tattoo artist. My hidden talent is the ability to understand what women want and the artistic talent to make their vision a reality.

What inspired you to become an artist? Did you first start as an esthetician?

Adriana: My mother had her eyebrows microbladed. The service was not cheap. The results were not good. Her brows were uneven, and the strokes were too deep. I first noticed how dark they appeared. My mom explained the color subsides 40-60 percent (in time, it did). My second concern was the shape. Her brows were asymmetrical (her natural brows were not), but I quickly envisioned what needed to be done to make them symmetrical.

Microblading is not a “one and done” type of service, it requires at least two visits. At her touch up appointment, I pointed out the areas that needed attention. The artist took my constructive criticism with grace and was open to recommendations. At the end of the service, she said “You have an eye for this, if you get yourself certified, I will hire you.”  So, I did just that. I took the course, obtained my tattoo license, and came back to work part-time for her. I was a full-time high school teacher working multiple jobs to make ends meet, and this was my break!

Tattooing is an art. It’s about enhancing natural beauty, symmetry and design, and most of all, it’s about technique!  Mastering the technique takes practice. It wasn’t until after I started working on clients that I felt the need to become an esthetician. Understanding skin types, how skin functions, skin characteristics, the aging process, and skin undertones is fundamental to achieving clients’ desired results. Did I need to become an esthetician to work as a cosmetic tattoo artist? No. But do I believe every tattoo artist should have an in-depth understanding of skin types? Absolutely!

Patricia: When COVID stopped the world in 2020, I was forced to make a career change – a blessing in disguise. I had always been passionate about fashion and skincare, but my life path steered me away from her passions. Thanks to the pandemic, I had to regroup and restart. Through experience and ambition I set my heart and sights on a new reality and co-founded Beauty Lab + Market with my lifelong friend and collegiate soccer teammate. I knew together we had the talent , drive, and love of giving women the self-confidence they deserve by helping them create the reality of how they see themselves.

What brow philosophy do you stand by?

Not everyone is born with perfect brows. But that doesn’t mean your brows can’t be perfect! You just have to find the right brow treatment for you.

What is your favorite brow treatment?

There are so many brow treatments to choose from: henna brows, brow tinting, brow waxing, brow tweezing, brow lamination, ombre powdered brows, gradient brows, microblading, and pixelated brows, just to name a few. It’s difficult to decide which service is best; every client’s needs are different.

If a client is looking for a quick fix that looks great, saves them time getting ready in the morning, and always has their brows looking their best, our hands-down favorite brow treatment is a variation of the ombre powdered brows. Ombre brows are versatile and can be customized to meet every client’s needs. It works well on all skin types, is customizable, and can be made bold or light, thick or thin, arched or curvy. The options are limitless.

What brands do you use and why?

For Brow Lamination, BOM brows are versatile and can be used on both brows and lashes. For cosmetic brow tattoos, Perma Blend Pigments. The color fades away (like invisible ink) without turning colors like red, blue, or purple. The pigments are vegan-friendly and can be mixed to create a custom color. For brow shaping with wax, Beauty Image Azule is great for sensitive skin. For brow henna, we use Mina or Ellebanna, and For brow tinting, Refectocil or Bio.

What is your secret to beautiful and full brows?

The secret to beautiful brows is to give your clients what they need and want.

What are your favorite tools to use in the treatment room and why?

For ombre brows, the Beauty Vibe Wireless machine. Its best feature is that it is wireless. It is very user-friendly, with three different speeds, allowing for better control of pixelated results. It also has freedom for plenty of needle adjustments.

The BrowMart microblading pen is a disposable tool for drawing eyebrows using the microblading technique. It contains a U-Blade made of 304 stainless steel (18 pins, 0.18 needle size).

What is your favorite part about working at Beauty Lab + Market?

It’s all about the vibe. Our clean, airy space caters to all your senses – the perfect combination of luxury meets boho. The scent is like you’ve entered the lobby of a luxury hotel. The staff all get along and are there to help each other out; their camaraderie is uncanny. The tattoo area is very lively and hip, while the spa area is homey, tranquil, and serene. There is a classroom in the back where we teach all of the services we offer. It’s all about community, facilitating growth, and helping women empower women.
