The next phase of permanent makeup
The permanent makeup industry continues to grow and evolve, with a continuing influx of new pigments, needles, and techniques entering the market. The industry looks to move away from the previous negative connection of harsh, unnatural brows and provide men and women with the most natural-looking brows that utilize their current hair and face shape. The goal is to enhance clients’ features and provide them with the confidence that comes with beautifully applied, worry-free makeup.
The latest trend in permanent makeup is hyper-realism brows, sometimes referred to as ultra-realism brows. This technique is designed to replicate the natural texture, flow, and dimension of eyebrow hairs with exceptional detail, making the result appear extremely natural and lifelike.
This is achieved using smaller needle cartridges, such as a nano needle, and each individual hair is shaded, giving hair a three-dimensional appearance.
With hyper-realism brows, the goal is to achieve a result that blends seamlessly with existing hair, with attention to detail in color, shape, and texture to ensure the final appearance is as natural and lifelike as possible. This provides a realistic, long-lasting enhancement to natural brows.
It is a great option for all skin types and ages, whereas some other permanent makeup techniques can be more restrictive regarding mature skin types.
To achieve hyper-realism brows, several advanced techniques and skills are employed:
- Pixelated Techniques: This technique uses tiny dots of pigment to add depth and dimension. Each stroke is pixelated. Attention is given to adding dimension to each individual stroke – darker and fuller in the center of the stroke and softer at the edges of each stroke. Pixelated shading is then added to further dimension where needed.
- Precision in Design: Hyper-realism brows require a detailed design process. This includes careful planning of the eyebrow shape, color matching to the client’s natural hair color, and attention to individual hair direction and growth patterns.
- Advanced Tools and Techniques: Using high-quality pigments and tools, along with techniques that allow for fine control, helps in achieving the level of detail necessary for hyper-realism.
- Aftercare and Maintenance: Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure the pigment settles correctly and maintains its realistic appearance. This involves following specific guidelines for cleaning, moisturizing, and protecting the brows during the healing process.
- Customization: Each set of hyper-realism brows is tailored to the individual’s natural brow shape, facial features, and personal preferences, ensuring that the result is unique and complementary to their overall appearance.
The procedure will take a minimum of two applications, with the first application taking between two and three hours. The practitioner will design and customize the brows to the client’s features and facial design, taking skin undertones into consideration.
The second application is needed eight to twelve weeks after the initial application and will take between one and a half to two hours. Once brows are healed, this is a perfecting appointment to make any required adjustments, as every skin type and age group will heal differently.
In some cases, a third application may be necessary. An annual maintenance appointment is strongly suggested to keep the shape and color looking sharp and vibrant.
When looking for a practitioner to perform this procedure, you want an experienced and skilled professional who specializes in advanced eyebrow techniques. We always recommend you look for a practitioner who has taken a training course approved by the American Academy of Micropigmentation (AAM) and the Society of Permanent Makeup Professionals (SPCP). Ask for before and after photos and always look at their website and social media accounts. The process requires a high level of artistry and precision to achieve the most natural-looking results.
