What is your business called and where are you located?

My name is Kimberly Avalos and my business is called Wax Junkie. I am located in Chatsworth, California, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.

Can you give a little information about your background as an esthetician?

I have been a licensed esthetician for 11 years. After receiving my license, I worked at European Wax Center, where I practiced the art of Brazilian waxing. While working there, I perfected my technique in all things waxing and realized how much I enjoyed conversing with clients, educating them on intimate skincare, and helping them through what could be an awkward experience. I love seeing clients happy about their skin and their smiles after a fabulous wax session.

I believe in improving skin through education and staying updated on the latest products and techniques to provide the best experience from beginning to end.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

The most honest answer is, I’ve always had a passion for beauty, makeup, and hair! I truly wanted to help people feel and look their best while making them feel confident in their skin.

What beauty philosophy do you stand by?

I believe that each individual is beautiful and I take pride in embracing body positivity. When clients build up the courage to try something they “normally wouldn’t,” I prioritize their comfort. It is important for me to make my clients feel confident and empowered after their wax. I also believe in improving skin through education and staying updated on the latest products and techniques to provide the best experience from beginning to end.

What is your favorite treatment?

My favorite treatment I offer is the Brazilian Wax and Mini Vajacial. If you haven’t tried it, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. A vajacial is a treatment for the vulva post-wax and can help address concerns like ingrown hairs, hyperpigmentation, dehydration, and more! Not enough estheticians provide the vajacial, and it’s what has put my business on the map! I like to think of myself as the vajacial queen of Los Angeles!

What brands do you use and why?

I genuinely love using Bushbalm in my studio. I discovered Bushbalm on Instagram five years ago and haven’t found another brand I love as much. What keeps me coming back is their approach to intimate skincare. They’re bold with their ingredients, marketing, education, and inclusivity to all bodies! Not to mention the products are top-tier and affordable for both pros and clients.

What is your secret to beautiful skin?

Well… my secret to beautiful skin (down there) is to gently exfoliate with a sugar scrub 2-3 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs and to hydrate your skin daily with an ingrown oil after every bath or shower. This routine helps treat current ingrown hairs, brighten hyperpigmentation, and keep the skin hydrated. If I were stuck on a deserted island, these are the two products I couldn’t live without.

What are your favorite tools to use in the treatment room and why?

My go-to tool would have to be cold globes! They are a game-changer post-Brazilian wax and vajacial because they help to eliminate redness and calm the skin after waxing and extractions. I store them in a cold mini-fridge and lightly massage the globe over the waxed area using the Bushbalm backbar oil to help glide the globe easier and introduce ingredients like jojoba, tea tree oil, and grapeseed oil. My clients love the cold globe!

What is your favorite part about working for your company?

I consider myself lucky to wake up daily and do what I love—being a solo esthetician! Yes, I have worked very hard, but sometimes I still need someone to pinch me! My favorite part about working for myself is that I can still be a mom to my beautiful five-year-old. I enjoy the freedom of creating my own schedule and working at my pace. I can’t forget to mention all the people I get to meet and interact with in and outside of my studio. Lastly, I love creating content and spreading wax awareness all over my social platforms.
