Esthetician Spotlight: October

Rebeca Esparza,
Lashes by Rebe

What is your business called and where are you located?

My business is called Lashes by Rebe and my private studio is located in Coral Gables, Florida.

Can you give a little information about your background as an esthetician?

After spending over 10 years writing and editing copy for ad agencies, I decided to go after my childhood dream of being an esthetician.

I was always inspired by my tia abuela (great aunt) who is now 87, and still performs facials for her loyal clientele. Growing up, I would watch her and think: this is the coolest job ever–pop pimples and wax brows out of the comfort of your home? Sign me UP!

Whenever I book a service, I want to find the best of the best, absolute expert at that one service, not a jack of all trades.

In 2018, after years of being my friends’ go-to for at-home facials, make-up application, and beauty advice, I decided to take the leap when I was 33. I happened to make the move to Las Vegas after my contract working on copy for Microsoft was up, and I enrolled myself in beauty school there.

I’ve always been obsessed with lash length and mascara but I never got into extensions. Something about the look was always off to me, and the thought of glueing lashes to each individual lash gave me anxiety. Through trial and error, I learned about lash lifts, first getting them done on myself with any esthetician that offered them. I realized they always came out differently, some looked wonky, some looked great, some lasted, some didn’t. Some cost $50 some cost $200. I did my research and found a mentor who could teach me how to understand the chemistry behind lash lifts (they are basically a type of perm for the lashes) and that’s how I came to develop my own technique.

A great lash lift all comes down to product and ingredient knowledge, technique, and a discerning eye for choosing the right mold shape for the lash lift. There are many factors like eye shape, lash length and texture, and the timing–it’s not a one-size-fits all service, as any great esthetician will tell you about their craft.

Although I can give you an amazing facial, I decided to stick with just lash lifts and become known as “YOUR GIRLS FAVORITE LASH LIFT.”

Whenever I book a service, I want to find the best of the best, absolute expert at that one service, not a jack of all trades. Being that it uses the same product, I decided to get into brow laminations but I do not consider myself a brow artist. I refer out for brow shaping to the person I think is the best of the best!

Over six years later, here I am, happily doing what I love out of the comfort of my home, just like 12-year-old me dreamed.

What inspired you to become an esthetician?

My great aunt.

What beauty philosophy do you stand by?

Less is more!

What is your favorite treatment?

Lash lifts!

What brands do you use and why?

YUMILashes is the gold standard of lash lifts. Hailing from France, they have extremely strict regulations for which ingredients and chemicals can be used on the face and eyes.

What is your secret to beautiful skin?

Quarterly facials and a pared down, but extensive routine at home. Never sleep with makeup on, and avoid makeup when you can.

What is your favorite part about working for your company?

Seeing my clients’ reactions when they go from thinking they have tiny, downward lashes to beautiful, lifted lashes! I love to rehab a lash extension addict!
